Biography
Wallace Jackmon, PhD joined the faculty at UNO in the Fall of 2006. and is currently an Assistant Professor with the School of Social Work. Dr. Jackmon received his PhD.D. in Clinical Psychology from Capella University in Minneapolis Minnesota. He received his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska in Omaha in 1998. Dr Jackmon received his Bachelor’s of Social Work degree with a minor in coaching from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
His background has been primarily working with families, with specialties in adolescents, children and conduct problems. Dr Jackmon began his social work career working For the State of South Dakota in Child Protection Services, including providing case management, intake, investigations and supervision of interns. Dr Jackmon worked for Charter Hospital in Sioux Falls as a social worker, with responsibilities in case management, group therapy, individual therapy, utilization review and public speaking. He worked for Southeastern Mental Health Center after finishing his Masters degree, with duties including home based services, case management and outpatient therapy with families and adults and adolescents. Dr Jackmon now works for Avera University Psychiatry Associates, providing inpatient assessments and outpatient therapy. Dr Jackmon conducts group therapy and family sessions, and conducts psychological evaluations in the Partial program, inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr Jackmon was responsible for developing a joint program with Avera McKennan Hospital while working at Southeastern Mental Health Center. This program led to the development of a program he founded, called BASICS, which stood for behavioral and social interventions for children. This program was designed for early intervention for teaching of social skills for at-risk children aged 4-5 years old. Dr Jackmon also was responsible for development and implementation of a joint program with Avera and Volunteers of America Dakotas for a program designed for families of at-risk adolescents, developed in part through the University of Iowa.
Dr Jackmon also spent two years of service with Volunteers of America Dakotas within their inpatient adolescent chemical dependency program, serving as a group facilitator and an outpatient therapist through the Lifemarks outpatient program. Additionally, Dr Jackmon completed his PhD practicum in the State of South Dakota Department of Corrections West Farm program, which is a residential facility for incarcerated adolescent offenders.
