Biography

Dr. Nancy Kelley-Gillespie joined the UNO faculty in the Fall, 2005 and is currently an Assistant Professor with the School of Social Work. Dr. Kelley-Gillespie received her Ph.D. in Social Work with a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Utah, Master’s degree in Social Service Administration from The University of Chicago, Bachelor’s of Social Work degree with a minor in developmental psychology from Moorhead State University in Minnesota, and her Associate of Arts degree in Developmental Disabilities from Minot State University in North Dakota.

Her background has been primarily in the fields of developmental disabilities and aging, holding mostly direct care, case management, coordinating and supervisory, and administrative positions in community-based organizations. She also has extensive experience working with adjudicated individuals under legal guardianship who have been victims of elder abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation. Her research, practice, and policy interests include quality of life and quality of care of older adults; elder abuse, neglect and exploitation; end-of-life care; caregiving issues; community building; community long-term care initiatives; program evaluation; service-learning and civic engagement; and nonprofit administration.

Prior to coming to UNO, she was a Research Assistant Professor with the University of Utah College of Social Work. She was the Director of the Neighbors Helping Neighbors program, under the auspices of the W.D. Goodwill Initiatives on Aging with the University of Utah College of Social Work from 1999-2005. Dr. Kelley-Gillespie also represented the W.D. Goodwill Initiatives on Aging as a founding member of the Utah Coalition for Caregiver Support from February, 2002-July, 2005, the president of the Project C.A.R.E. Coalition from January, 2004-July, 2005, as well as a consultant for the University of Utah Elder Care Information and Referral Project from June, 2003-July, 2005. From May, 2000-August, 2002, Dr. Kelley-Gillespie coordinated the Quality of Life and Program Evaluation study of the Utah FlexCare Medicaid Long-term Care Demonstration Project in conjunction with the Utah State Health Department, W.D. Goodwill Family Foundation, and University of Utah College of Social Work.
